Released: 30.11.1986
Length: 24 blk

Kasper intro: Antiriad
Released: 05.12.1986
Length: 32 blk
Code: Kasper
Music: ?
Scrolls: Kasper

These two small intros, as buggy and simple they as they were, were the first products ever carrying the name Byterapers. How time's have changed, oh mercy...

They featured very simple elements: Ace of Aces had only some text with a background music from the game, and the text wouldn't even stay in place without bugging.
Antiriad had even a scrolltext if I remember right.

1987

During 1987 Kasper produced a series of "game intros", which were pretty nice in the time. They included such wonderful technical wonders like multispeed scrollers, variable font sizes and breakthroughs into the borders. These small intros were essential in paving our way into the bigger world, though they were meant just for Kasper & Co's local friends around Iisalmi.

These early works were so beautiful in their time. Every new effect was something new.

Some of these intros were later translated into English for foreign speading. This was seen as easy way to utilize our existing products that were originally meant just for our "own fun". The latest and best were thereby worked on one day in Kasper's place. Kasper's huge motivation on this task was a chocolade disc promised by Grendel for doing this. They intros were:

Byterapers demo

Released: autumm 1987
Length: 107 blk
Code: Kasper
Music: From the game WAR
Graphics: Kasper
Scrolls: Kasper, Grendel

This is the first truly real demo from us, ever. It was done after seeing other groups moving into making something bigger than just normal intros and misc small stuff, and was a pretty good thing in its time. Looks simple, but everything was back then. There was a secret part too, which was very possibly first secret part ever on a demo :-) It was different executable hidden into the demo itself, and could be run with a SYS command after reseting the machine. Few persons even managed to find it. We were naturally pretty proud of this demo, and it really is the first step into bigger, more serious things. A prelude to World of Codes :-)

The scrollstexts actually reveal a lot about the humorous view to world, already back then. The static texts in screen are already a hint, as you can surely see, but there's lots of scrolltexts too. Like Grendel always remebers Kasper's comment "Grendel, my secretary". Of course, there's lots of greetings, typical of that time, but if you can stand them you should find other marvellous things as well.

DEMOS

The Judges 1

Released:
Length:
Code: The Damage Inc.
Music: The Judges
Scrolls: ?

A music collection made of The Judges' musics.

The Judges were THE demogroup of their time. Or at least, one of the best. Their demoseries "Think Twice", I-V, were always full of innovative ideas, top of the line -coding and Red/The Judge's musics. Red was definitely one of the best musicians of the time. Overall they were one of the most respected groups during 1987-1988. As Grendel was a Red-fan, it was decided to make a collection of his works and The Damage Inc. as a new member was tasked this job.

On coding front the demo was not special. Just two scrollers, though one in upper borders and quite nifty. The main thing was the musics, which were absolutely awesome.

Technoshit
Released: 04051988
Length: 121 blk
Code: The Damage Inc.
Music: ?
Scrolls: Grendel

A pretty nice demo from The Damage Inc., which featured a nerve cracking way of changing Parts: you must press BOTH shifts at certain times. Or actually, the demo had some pretty bad bugs but at least it had cool and really worthy name. We made some good inside jokes later with this, and it got a follow-up as well, Technoshit II.

Full version contains a text note as well.

Parts:
1: Kasper's Waste Power-intro
2: Very rough part with logo, separate changing contact addresses, fast rasterfilled scroller and The Damage Inc. in bottom border.
3: Another rough and actually even buggy part. Includes Grendel's party-trip scrolltexts.

Released: 04101988
Length: 155 blk + 50 blk note
Code: JTP
Music: Division, Maniacs of Noise, Jeroen Tel
Graphics: JTP+?
Scrolls: JTP, Grendel

This lovely, lovely (B) demo! Originally it was meant to come out in the (B) copyparty, or quite soon after it, but instead it was again one of the typical JTP's "soon, soon" shows where he managed to delay the demo month after month.

The result was very good, though. The demo is still one of Grendel's favourite pieces, and it was honored in 1996 when the demo competing in Assembly'96 demoparty was named Follow The Sign III. No lousy demo gets follow-ups 8 years later.

Full version includes separate executable 50 blk long note"fts:greetz", which includes the missing/updated greetings in a Bytewriter form.

Partydemo - (B)'88 invitation
Released: spring'88
Length: 7 + 66 + 49 + 96 + 17 blk note
Code: SCS
Music: Part 2: Maniacs of Noise from game Hawkeye.
Graphics: Yip/Pure Byte
Scrolls: Growl, SCS, Grendel

The largest demo we'd made so far. Huge! 5 or 6 parts! Great! Just fab! The 1st party invitation demo in Finland.

There are two different versions. Official one is 4 files + executable note. Unofficial one is the pre-version shown in DDG Digiparty'88. No knowledge if it was spread around. The demo is pretty nice, though not especially special, but take note that the scrolls are above average quality. Much was written when we were travelling to Silents-party in Sweden, and Growl even translated a whole erotic story from a Finnish men's magazine Kalle/Jallu/something into english to it. Very funny :-)

Screenshots from part 2.

Byteraper Chorus
Released:
Length: 186 blk
Rating:
Code: Mac Gyver & April 7 & Kenny Everett / Digitize Design Group
Singing: Byterapers

The legendary (B) Chorus singing Pikku Kakkosen Posti! Full version includes a text file note.

Quoting from the original text file note:
Originally sung in FIG/TJU copyparty, when everone was drunk of quite drunk. Then April7/DDG came with a recorder and grendel tried to organize (B) members to sing it to tape. Well they didn't. Then some weeks after party when in headquarters were 3 members, and this time we recorded it. Awful. Next monday tape was sent to A7, and a few weeks later a package arrived including this digitizing.

First Kiss
First Kiss
Released:
Length: 80 blk
Code: Servant Music: ?
Graphics: Flex/Contex Scrolls: Grendel, Servant

Servant's first demo for Byterapers. There's actually quite interesting tale behind this one. If you read Follow The Sign's scrolls, you can see much hate-texts against a Finnish looser. It's hard to say where this hatething started, but this someone and Grendel were in quite a war with each other. Then one day, he calls Grendel and asks if he could join (B). It was really quite a surprise, but after speaking some time the request was accepted and he became Servant/(B). Many many people were VERY surprised about this. It kinda proved love rules over hate or something, and people can throw their disagreements away.

Parts:
1: CSA's intro V4
2: Middle finger, sprites, logos and a scroller.

Grappo!!!!
Released:
Length: 131 blk
Code: CSA
Music: Maniacs of Noise, ?
Graphics: ?
Scrolls: Speed-Head

Grappo! Fellas! This is one of the first demos CSA made after joining (B), and quite a showcase what his career was to be. Something mediocre, something truly great, something really bad. The 5th part was quite a hit in Finnish scene, making people wonder if Byterapers was on their way to top the demoscene. We were. Not that decade though.

Parts:
1: CSA intro V1
2: Bubbling (B) logo up, scroller in middle
3: "Stage 3 has joined Byterapers" Stage3 sprites moving, bouncing scroller in bottom, a bit of rasters and moving text in middle with othercrap as well.
4: Two big scrollers, one up other slimey-scroller down.
5: GREAT part this one! Huge moving rastersplit that's even in side borders! Cool cool cool! Very possibly the first truly modern high tech part in (B) demos ever!

The full version contains actually two text file notes. The guys in Sweden were always doing stuff that needed fixing and stuff by the HQ before we could go on spreading it.

Kasper Waste Power/Raster Intro
Released: spring 1988
Length: 41 blk
Code: Kasper
Music: Red / The Judges
Scrolls: Grendel, Kasper

Kasper's Waste Power/Raster Intro. This was the last product Kasper ever managed to finish. Showing some surprising technical innovation and humorous idea, you could control the scrollspeed and moving rasters with your joystick, the Waste power meter showing you how much CPU power is left on the machine. When music reached particularly resource eating point, C64's limits were reached and the poor intro begged for mercy ;-) The rasters on Kasper's logo were very beautiful and original on that time. All the graphics drew slowly to fill the screen so it took some time before intro was running fully after loading/running it.

A total classic. The intro was so good we used it over half a year. One noteworthy thing was that it took half a minute to launch up, and half a minute to shut down after pressing space. Very artistic and how many nerves we managed to wrech by continuously using it! Yeah!
